Where to Treat Your Sweet Tooth on a Hot Summer Day

Luckily for all of us, Ossington and Dundas has become a sweet spot of late, with new and established venues serving us up some sweet cold treats to keep us happy this hot summer. Today is an especially hot day, so instead of having eggs for brunch, in the interest of research, we took an ice cream tour of the neighborhood.

Stop #1: Eagle’s Nest Espresso and Ice Cream Bar. Recently named one of the top places in the city for affogatos, Eagle’s Nest at 1199 Dundas Street West serves many flavours of ice cream and the aforementioned affogato.

Eagle’s Nest has a small seating area and you can often catch a soccer game – earlier in the summer they showed Euro, and today there was an Olympics soccer match on the TV.

Just a little east and on the north side of Dundas is our second stop: The Arrow Cafe. This new spot, at 1164 Dundas West, has already gotten a some press for their diary free coconut milk ice cream and the vanilla buffalo milk ice cream, which we tried. The comfortable space has a lot of tables to enjoy your coffee and ice cream, and, importantly, good air conditioning.

A little further east on Dundas West, The Tampered Press has added an impressive list of ice cream flavours to their offerings. Stop in at 256 Crawford Street (entrance is on Dundas) to try some for yourself.

Even further east (I bet you didn’t think we could eat any more!) was Stop #4 on Dundas Street West, the bakery/baking school/events space Le Dolci at 1006 Dundas Street West. We tried the ice pops, which come in a variety of fruit/herb combinations and will definitely cool you down, but we have to go back for some cupcakes and some cupcake decorating classes. They have a whole calendar of events and classes. Today they were setting up for a designer decorating lesson, and there are many more to come. Le Dolci is a unique destination and because of that, it’s getting a lot of press. Check out their video about the classes – you can go with your kids or your co-workers.

Our final stop, last but definitely not least, was More Than Pasta at 121 Ossington. A neighborhood favorite for delicious gluten free pastas, prepared Italian meals, and sauces, More Than Pasta recently expanded their menu with gluten and dairy free desserts, including sorbettos and ice cream sandwiches.

So we return home to watch those fit Olympians in our air conditioned home, sweetened and satisfied, and maybe needing some exercise.  It was worth it! We did it for you! Try some yourself sometime soon.
