UPDATE: A reader has informed us that Matt Blondin has commented on a BlogTO article that Junk is not what will be at 88 Ossington but he is working on another concept restaurant to open there soon. We will keep in you informed as we hear more news.
As always at Ossington and Dundas, changes are happening in the restaurant scene. We have one recent closing and a lot of future openings in the news.
Yours Truly, the much heralded little restaurant that came out of nowhere in December 2011 from a former snack bar, served its last tasting menu at the end of September. No word on what will fill the space at 229 Ossington.
Delux Restaurant closed in June, renovating the space to convert into a more casual iteration, like their sister restaurant on Roncesvalles, La Cubana. Well, Delux has begun tweeting again, leading us to believe the wait may soon be over and we can have delicious brunch and Cuban sandwiches before long!
Another new restaurant, from the owners of cool Ossington favorite Oddseoul, is under renovation in the space next to Churchill at 2 Lakeview. While local residents think there are too many restaurants on what used to be a rundown strip of Dundas West, Toronto food fans will probably flock to the new Japanese snack shack to be called Han Moto, as posted on their Instagram:
Also on Dundas, The Contender has been in the works since the summer at 1155 Dundas West, next door to Ossington Stop, and is rumored to be from the team at neighborhood darling The Lakeview.
Also opening this Fall is Borealia, taking over 59 Ossington, the site of many failed restaurants before it, including Ardor Bistro and Beau Lieu. Hopefully this one, which plans to bring native and historical Canadian cuisine to the menu, succeeds where the others haven’t We’ll find out soon as they are planning to open by mid-November.
Also supposed to open in 2014 is Junkbar, from the guys behind the food truck The Food Dudes and Chef Matt Blondin, formerly of high-end spots Acadia and Momofuku Daisho. They are taking over Levack Block at 88 Ossington and making it a high-end snack bar, which are all the rage these days. All we know from their website is they plan to open in 2014. Only a few months left, and we hope to try their snacks sooner than later.

Matt Blondin has commented on this BlogTO article (http://www.blogto.com/sports_play/2014/10/the_10_most_anticipated_toronto_restaurant_openings_for_fall_2014/) saying that Junk is NOT opening at the 88 Ossington space, but that they have something else in the works planned to open in December.
Thanks. We’ll keep an eye on the space and let you know what we hear. Appreciate the heads-up!
