French for “Beautiful Place,” Beau Lieu Bistro is now serving dinner Tuesday-Sunday at 59 Ossington Avenue. I stopped in earlier tonight and spoke to both Sarah, and Lon, the chef. The two of them worked together previously for many years at the well-respected Jacques Bistro du Parc in Yorkville. A friend of Lon’s asked for his help renewing his building on Ossington with a French bistro, and Beau Lieu is born.
They have spent 8 months getting the place ready and getting all their licenses and approvals (Yes, they are licensed!), and the space is very cozy and charming, just like the staff. The menu is full of French classics, like French Onion soup, escargot and Nicoise salad apps, and Coquille St. Jacques and veal sweetbreads among the entrees. The wine list is also mostly French classics. If you want to ask questions or make a reservation, their number is 647-345-5525.
The menu also includes freshly made desserts, and they looked amazing (see for yourself!) The desserts tonight were all fruit based, with a berry tart, an apple, and a lemon tart. How will I choose?
Unfortunately, I could not sample anything tonight, but when I do, I’ll let you know. Please let us know when you try Beau Lieu Bistro yourselves.
I am very keen on trying Beau Lieu Bistro, but it will have to be for a very special occasion, the prices are quite high.
It’s really about the same as Paramour, Union and Bohmer – perhaps cheaper, and the food is delish! Obviously not cheap snacks.
Dropped in last night. Classic french food with extreme charm. The hosts were lovely and the food was great. Had the French Onion Soup, Nicoise Salad and a a couple of tarts – raspberry and lemon – both outstanding.
That was bumpin delish! Killer steak and veal, outrageously tasty desserts, a really nice wine, and bread to die for. On top of this they are so nice. Every neighborhood needs a bistro, and food-wise Beau Lieu is the finest I’ve been to in Toronto (including the Harbord places, that Annex spot, and Le Select).
It really is so nice to have people like this on our street. And, yes, the bread was sooo good.
Damn the dessert menu, cant stop at one.
Nice that this place is getting some of the attention it deserves.
