Avenue Q has been a hit ever since it premièred at Lower Ossington Theatre in the Winter of 2011, selling out for months at a time. Well, good news for fans and those of you who still need to see it: Avenue Q is back for a long run as of Thursday, June 20th. The show follows recent college graduate Princeton, who moves to NYC and the most affordable neighborhood there, Avenue Q. The twist about Avenue Q is that Princeton and most of his friends are puppets; the show has been called a dirty Sesame Street. Don’t bring the little ones: this is hilarious adult entertainment.
Recently, we got to meet one of the puppets, Nicky, and the two actors who run him, Phil Skala and Shannon Dickens. Skala is a regular at Lower Ossington Theatre: he currently stars in Rent and Pinkalicious, and both have been with the show since it started at LOT. It’s amazing talking to the two of them while they are manipulating Nicky in perfect harmony. You’ve got to see the show to witness their, and the rest of the casts’, talents.
When we met them, they all told us about their love for Avenue Q, the fans, the Lower Ossington Theatre and the surrounding neighborhood. They also gave us tips on where to go for food (and to maybe spot them!) before and after a show. Tickets are available for Avenue Q here.
I’ve heard it’s awesome!
It totally is – and I’m not really a big musical kind of guy, but it was done so well. The puppets are awesome.
