Founder Bar is a new craft cocktail slash snack bar on Dundas West. Founder Bar opened this week, so we stopped in to try it out during Dundas West Fest last night.
About Founder Bar
Located at 1282 Dundas West, Founder Bar takes over after a long line of restaurants occupying the space on the north side of Dundas just west of Dovercourt. The last entry at 1282 was Saucy Pierogi, and before that Essen and Quinta.
The room looks great. It’s been updated and is clean and uncluttered with a long bar fully stocked with bottles of booze. Aside from the bar stools, which were all occupied, there is lots of comfortable seating in Founder Bar, including banquettes.
The menu begins with signature cocktails. Yes, we sampled a few! The drinks cover the gamut: light and citrusy to strong and hearty, with rum, tequila, gin, whisky and more on offer in Founder Bar’s drinks menu.
Food is organized by small, medium and large plates. The owners of Founder Bar are very clear that it’s a cocktail/snack bar. They don’t call it a restaurant. This does not mean the food is an afterthought. We enjoyed the snacks we sampled. Do I need to say the food is meant for sharing or is that acknowledged as standard in the industry now? We tried the mixed skewers with delicious pork belly as the standout and an excellent beef crudo. There were lots of choices we would have been happy to try. Return visits are highly likely.
