There’s another pizza joint coming to our neighbourhood. East side newbie Double D’s Pizza is planning to take over the space recently vacated by Junked at Dundas and Dovercourt. For those who didn’t know, Junked recently moved downtown to Queen and Spadina.
Double D’s opened on Gerrard Street at the beginning of 2017 and Torontonians must like their Chicago style pies, because the restaurant is already expanding to the west end. Daily Hive reported on this expansion last week, but these guys move faster than expected and are planning to open very soon!
This new pizza joint should not be seen as direct competition to our two popular local pizza spots: Libretto and Superpoint. Chicago style pizza is a completely other breed; some refer to it as more like a cake versus a pizza pie. You’ll be able to try for yourself any day now. According to the latest post on the pizza parlour’s Instagram account, they are hoping to open at 1256 Dundas Street West tomorrow. Yes, that’s right. You may be able to try their pizza on Dundas West tomorrow, March 18th.
I took some photos of the exterior today – and there were people working away inside the space too. Keep an eye out for their opening.
