It’s been a while since we’ve updated you on local restaurant news, so we have a lot to cover.
Top news, as we posted yesterday, is the soon to open Greek restaurant coming to 80 Ossington: Mamakas. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
The Saint Tavern and Amsterdam Brewery are teaming up for a Brewmasters Dinner in February. The event includes a 5 course tasting menu with beer pairings for $75.
Pizzeria Libretto got international recognition; this time USA Today called them one of the top 10 lunches in Toronto. Good news, as per their twitter, they’ve extended their lunch hours and are now open Monday-Friday starting at 11:30am.
Now Toronto’s Annual Eat Cheap issue recognized Venezia Bakery’s wide assortment of affordable options: from the cod fritter to the natas. Delicious.
Apparently, cauliflower is a hot food trend of 2014, and Toront0 Life highlights the cauliflower salad from Yours Truly, calling it a “must try.”Another oft-lauded Ossington eatery to receive new kudos was Golden Turtle: it’s delicious and well portioned rare beef pho is one of Joanne Kates’ Top 10 soups in Post City.
The new Malaysian restaurant Soos got a nice review in Toronto Life. They really liked the poutine!
Newly opened Dundas West sports bar The Dock Ellis is gaining attention – The Grid really loves the meat platter, which definitely could sate some sports fans.
Another local Asian joint, Oddseoul, was lauded by blogto in another one of their lists: The 10 most Outrageous Fusion Meals for their Bulgogi Cheesesteak. Oddseoul doesn’t have a website, but they are open nightly at 90 Ossington.
Winterlicious is back on January 31st, and Dundas West resto Quinta is offering some pretty tasty 3 course dinners for $25 through February 13.
In other, semi-food related news, 6 year old bar Levack Block closed down a little over a week ago. The building, a beautiful big space at the corner of Ossington and Humbert, was sold and we don’t know who the new owner is or what the plans are. There’s lots of speculation on the blogto message board.
