The North by Northeast Festival (NXNE), one of Toronto’s best music fests, is back next week. NXNE runs June 10th-16th with a schedule of music and film now enhanced with art and comedy. As usual, our area has lots of music and now we have NXNE comedy too!
The big shows are free and happening at Yonge-Dundas Square: this year, The National, Ludacris and Social Distortion are headlining. In our neighborhood, there will be plenty of opportunities to see local and international up and comers. Local venues which your wristband will let you enter include The Garrison, The Dakota Tavern and The Painted Lady. Live In Bellwoods‘ Great Heart Festival offers 4 days of free shows in Trinity Bellwoods Park. A quick walk or cycle away on College Street, The Mod Club has a few nights of shows, and down on Queen West, The Drake, The Gladstone and The Great Hall are also venues.
A new aspect this year is the NXNE Comedy Festival, and The Lower Ossington Theatre is a venue for 5 nights of comedy, Wednesday – Sunday.
The week of NXNE also has loads of unofficial showcases, where beer and alcohol companies sponsor afternoon showcases at different venues, art galleries and bars. So keep your eye on twitter, download the NXNE app, and enjoy the shows!
All the neighborhood events are in our calendar, and we’ll keep updating as more information becomes available.
