This upcoming weekend is an opportunity for people all over the world, including here in Toronto, to participate in free Jane’s Walks. Named after Jane Jacobs, Jane’s Walks were created 7 years ago to celebrate the legendary urban activist through neighborhood walks led by locals. This year, there are over 150 walks in Toronto alone this May 4-5. We are highlighting the walks in our neighborhood and others that may be relevant to our neighbors.
You can learn more about the building of the walls at CAMH through “The Walls Are Alive with The Sound of Mad People” on Sunday at 12noon. There’s also a walk on Dundas West explaining the plans for the all new Dundas West Fest, and another that follows the path of Garrison Creek, from College Street through Trinity Bellwoods Park and south.
We are also leading a walk again, walking up Ossington from CAMH on Queen to Dundas, talking about the ongoing evolution of the neighborhood, starting Saturday at 4:30PM.
A little further afield, there are walks in Liberty Village, a walk decrying casinos in Ontario Place, a tour of the “dog’s leg” of Dundas West, and Mike Layton and friends will do a walk commemorating Jack Layton’s life and work in Toronto.
The good news is the weather this weekend is supposed to be sunny and mild. More good news: Anyone can sign up to lead a walk, and they are all free to attend. Be sure and read the descriptions on the website as some may be more accessible than others: there are even a couple that are actually bike rides instead of walks. If you are able to go on a walk, enjoy and share. Let us know which walks you are thinking of doing, and once you’ve walked, share what you’ve learned. Enjoy the walks, and the weekend.
Enjoyable walk today! Thanks 🙂
