Among the many things our neighbourhood is known for beer and good independent music are two of the big draws. On January 24th and 25th they will be combined at a festival taking place at The Garrison called the The Big Smoke Bands and Brews Festival.
It is organized by the folks at TallBoys, which is a great beer joint up on Bloor, just east of Ossington, but in its third year, this festival has outgrown their venue.
The lineup of both brewers and bands is enough to make January exciting.
On the beer side it includes all local Ontario craft beers:
- Junction Craft Brewing
- Collective Arts Brewing
- Hogtown Brewers
- Great Lakes Brewery
- Wellington Brewery
- The Publican House Brewery
- Cameron’s Brewing Company
- NICKELBROOK
- Duggan’s Brewery
And on the music side, some of Toronto’s best independent bands are participating:
On Friday Jan 24th there’s:

Each night, the event starts at 5pm with beer tasting until 9pm, at which time the bands go on until 2am. Tickets are a great deal at $15 per night and that includes 2 free beer samples! You can also buy both nights for $25. Can’t get a better deal than that! Tickets are available at Soundscapes (572 College) & TALLBOYS (838 Bloor W.) or online here.
