Events in Ossington Village this weekend include Canadian Music Week, Earth Day, and Record Store Day, signaling that spring is finally here. Here’s a roundup of weekend events for April 21-23.
Canadian Music Week
This week is Canadian Music Week in Toronto, and there are music showcases every night through the weekend at local venues The Garrison, The Painted Lady and The Dakota Tavern. Canadian Music Week features different bands every hour at each bar. To go see all the music at the bar that night, door charge starts at $10. Bands from Canada and all over the world are playing. Check the website for schedules.
In addition, all these bars are open late – til 4am – all weekend for CMW.
Tonight, April 7th, is CAMH’s annual awareness campaign and fundraiser for mental health. Any individual or group is welcome to participate in anyway they can to raise awareness and end the stigma of mental illness. A number of local businesses signed up and will support the CAMH One Brave Night initiative tonight! Here’s some information on some of these initiatives so you can join in and add your support on Ossington for One Brave Night.
Academy of Lions
Ossington gym and community centre Academy of Lions offers you the opportunity to get fit and do good with them. From 7:30-10:30pm, join their MetCon & Mobility class, followed by an afterparty with a live DJ and refreshments. Head over to 64 Ossington to join their team, or, if you can’t make it, donate to their group at the CAMH site.
The clothing store focused on unique fashion from European and Asian designers not commonly found in Toronto. Although Ossington is building daytime foot traffic, with lots of more established and even “chain” brands setting up shop here, it may be too difficult to create a name for a new indie brand.
Play is having a big sale until end of business Wednesday, March 22nd, on everything but shoes. If you didn’t check it out before, now is your last chance.

We’ll keep you posted when another tenant takes over the space at 216 Ossington Avenue.
This weekend local gallery and often artspace Rally plays host to another album drop pop-up launch where Detroit hip hop artist Big Sean will be offering some limited edition merchandise including hats, tees, hoodies and Bomber jackets. The pop up will be held simultaneously in his home city of Detroit, LA and New York also – so we think it’s unlikely that he’ll stop by. Given the popularity of these events in the past, including the recent launch of The Weeknd’s album Starboy, we expect that part of Ossington to have lines up the street. See his instagram for more details.
2016 is almost over, and we look back at all the new businesses we welcomed to the neighbourhood this year, and the ones that closed. Here is our 2016 in Review of the changes in Ossington Village this past year.
Ufficio Restaurant opened January 2016
At the very start of the new year, we welcomed new Italian fish focused restaurant Ufficio. Still serving dinner most nights, Ufficio is located at 1234 Dundas West.
Bridge + Bardot closed January 2016
Women’s fashion boutique Bridge + Bardot was open on Dundas West for 3 1/2 years. The shop closed in January to focus on their online store, which is still operating.
Rock Lobster Closed, Baby Huey Moved Into the Space, March 2016
Lululemon Store to be called The Local Is Opening Tomorrow
Lululemon is opening a retail concept store called The Local on Ossington this week. We heard the news of this opening back in September, and it’s been confirmed by Lululemon that the concept store will open this Friday, December 16th at 96 Ossington.
Expected to be a Men’s Concept Store
From everything we’ve read, this new Lululemon store will focus on men’s apparel and lifestyle. According to a video posted on the company’s social media, the store will involve collaboration and be a “breeding ground for innovation”. Perhaps some of the collaboration will occur with other local Ossington businesses. The Local team has already engaged with Academy of Lions founder Dhani Oaks, who is being labelled a “The Local ambassador” on Lululemon’s Facebook account. This is a good partnership for Lululemon, because they want to outfit all of the athletes at the crossfit gym.
216 Ossington has a new main floor tenant – a clothing and shoe store for men and women called Play.
The space was formerly home to hair salon Hero Heroine, which has recently moved upstairs at the same address. Play fills the space with some new brands including a variety of European designers of men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and bags.
Today is Black Friday and we recommend you shop local. There are so many great retailers in our neighborhood, and many of them are offering special deals today, in store, online or both. Get your holiday shopping done early, or buy something for yourself. We don’t judge, as long as you shop local!
Anice Jewellery, 102 Ossington Ave
The more you buy today, the more you get back. This local jewellery store is offering you gift cards when you spend $50 or more: with a $50 spend, receive a $25 gift card, with $75 you’ll get $35, and for a $100 purchase, you’ll get back a $45 gift card. You can buy jewellery for multiple people with that deal!
