Roywoods Now Open on Ossington

Roywoods Ossington Open

Roywoods Ossington LogoJerk chicken restaurant Roywoods is now open on Ossington. We’ve been anticipating the opening since the spring, and now the latest outpost of the popular jerk chicken restaurant is open at 198 Ossington Avenue.

198 Ossington

198 Ossington is located on the second block south of Dundas, and on the west side of the street. Previously home to The Ossington Dispensary, and before that, Portugal Draperies, Roywoods is located in between Telegramme Prints and Lola Salon.

The business began as a take-out jerk chicken spot in City Place – a very well liked jerk chicken spot, I should add! This Roywoods location is more upscale, more of an eat-in restaurant, and has a bar. The space is a big change from the dispensary that came before, but they did leave a Weedmaps sticker in the window as a nod to the last tenant.

Roywoods actually occupies 3 separate spaces, with the main room the first to open. Soon there will be a back space in the garage on the alley, similar to that at Superpoint. Plus, Roywoods occupies the downstairs rooms at 198 Ossington which will eventually open for dinner as well.

We visited the main room for dinner and drinks and, of course, photos! Roywoods brings a new cuisine to the neighborhood, with a menu full of Caribbean favorites like jerked meats, calaloo, coco bread and festivals.

Opportunities to eat at Roywoods are currently limited to dinner service. Late night take-out will begin soon on weekends, and hopefully expand to weeknights and eventually daytime. We sampled a few dishes like the jerk chicken wings and the special lobster on coco bread, and enjoyed everything. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was really good! We’ll return to taste more from the menu soon.
