Ossington Business Profile #16: Boehmer

The 16th installment in our Ossington business profiles is Boehmer. Although only two years in the neighbourhood, the restaurant feels like one of the legacy restaurants on the strip.

What’s your business?

Boehmer restaurant, located at 93 Ossington Avenue, focuses on local, sustainable food. We draw inspiration from seasonality and local availability of produce and meat. We have a strong focus on simplicity – great flavors done without pretension.

How is your business unique?

We work with local artists, acting as a gallery space to display their works. Local musicians, such as Errol Fisher and his Blues Band perform at the restaurant. We love Ossington Avenue, and the community that surrounds it!

How long have you been in business here?

We officially opened in April of 2010.

What drew you to be here on Ossington?

Apart from loving the neighbourhood, local businesses, and the sense of community, we found the perfect space. A former auto garage with 14 foot ceilings. The big open space served as an open canvas, for us to create something beautiful and unique that reflects our local ethos.

What changes have you seen on Ossington since your business has been here?

When we first opened our doors, Ossington was just beginning its transformation into the great little village it has grown to be. We’re thrilled that there are so many great restaurants, bars and shops now open.

How do you see your business and Ossington five years from now?

As more and more residents enter the neighbourhood, and new communities are built nearby, we anticipate being very busy in five years’ time. When our patio is finished, we hope to see it buzzing every summer. We look forward to collaborating with other neighbourhood businesses. We’re also excited to expand our operation – stay tuned!

What is your favorite spot on Ossington, other than your own? and why?

Reposado has always been a favourite. They have a great vibe, great patio and an unbelievable tequila selection. I also enjoy popping into all the other places on the strip, as everyone here has something unique to offer. That’s what makes Ossington so special.
